These promises are yours!

I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 15. Like many young women, I had an identity crisis. Who was I? Where did I fit into this world? And now, as a Christ follower, what does that look like? Did I have to wear long skirts and no makeup? Did I have to memorize scripture and go on mission trips?

But since that day I gave my life to Christ, He has spoken to me so often through the promises in the Bible. For a season, whenever I read the Bible, I heard my name being placed within the scripture. These scriptures, rich with promises and identity, became so real to me. They were promises not just for the church, which I was a part of but these promises were specifically for me! And, they are specifically for YOU, too!

Before long, I began to embrace these promises and know that they were not just for people who were more intelligent than me, more dedicated in their Christian walk, or even more obedient Christ followers; they were absolutely for me. More importantly, they were not just quaint, comforting words; they were my absolute identity. Moreover, they were true because of who God is, not because of anything I did, but because of what Jesus did! If HE secured my identity, then there is nothing I can do to lose that identity.

In March 2015, my beloved husband of nearly 25 years, Bill, suddenly and very unexpectedly went home to heaven. I was devastated. I clung to the promises that God had spoken to me as mine.  Just as I questioned when I first became a Christ follower, I wasn’t sure who I was now. In His faithfulness, as He did before and throughout the years, God reassured my identity in Him.

He spoke scriptures to me and assured me the promises were mine! God restored my broken heart and revealed Himself to me in a more enormous way than I even knew possible.  He spoke over me who I am. He completed my identity in Christ. He then laid it on my heart to write the scriptures as He had told them to me, personalized and from the first person, articulated from Him to me. He wants all of His daughters to know, beyond any doubt, that the promises in the Bible are for them.

You are highly treasured by the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit! You have captured their heart. Read through each promise. Realize it is for you. Claim it as your own and allow what God says about you to become your identity. These are not feel-good words or positive affirmations that make you have a better day or feel warm and fuzzy. These are words spoken to you, about you, from the Spirit of the living God. These words are who you are.

So, my dear sisters in Christ, these promises are yours. They are not just for others. They are for you. Unequivocally.

I pray this is a beautiful journey for you as you press into what the God breathed words of the Bible says about you and you realize your identity in Christ, solidifying all of the promises that you are who God says you are and have all He set apart for you. When you embrace those facts, no one can take that away from you, and you can be everything God intended for you before the foundation of the Earth.
